(Fig2). They were originally designed to replace the single magnifying lens in use in the watchmaking and engraving trades. With a single lens it isobvious that the retinal image of the unused eye is disregarded or suppressed in practice, with the result that the potential danger of functional amblyopia as a consequence of this suppression, becomes in time an accomplished fact in watchmakers for instance. The use of Berger's apparatus not only prevents this danger, but by affording stereoscopic binocular vision gives a far

Phakic Intraocular Lenses and their Special Indications
Phakic intraocular lenses revolutionize refractive surgery and continue to serve as an excellent option for vision correction in patients who are not ideal candidates for laser vision correction. This article will review special indications of phakic intraocular lenses in the clinical practice.
متن کاملKnowledge and practice of contact lens wear and care among medical students of University of Malaya.
The knowledge related to contact lens wear and practice care of contact lenses among medical students of University of Malaya was assessed through a structured questionnaire. One hundred and twenty-one contact lens wearers participated in this study. Majority of contact lens wearers were females (106, 87.6%); the duration of contact lens wear varied from less than six months to two years or mor...
متن کاملEthical issues in ophthalmic practice and the ways to monitor ethics.
The ethical principles that apply in clinical practice are autonomy, beneficence, non-malfeasance and justice (Tay and Au Eong, 2010). Autonomy or self-determination is the right of the individuals to make their own decisions regarding their medical treatment on the basis of informed consent (e.g: wearing contact lenses or undergoing refractive corneal surgery). The principle of beneficence obl...
متن کاملComparison between an Interefrometric Technique and an Auto- Refractometer for Dioptric and Prismatic Power Measurement of Ophthalmic Lenses
Method and materials Testing of trial ophthalmic lenses, spherical and cylindrical, was carried out using an interferometric technique in order to estimate the dioptric and prismatic power of these lenses. The ophthalmic lenses were measured with a laser light, using a Twyman Green interferometer, and interference patterns were acquired and processed, obtaining the dioptric and prismatic power ...
متن کاملPassive stereoscopic panomorph system
In the last decade, wide-angle stereoscopic systems using fisheye lenses have been proposed but the compromise made to obtain a large field of view is low resolution and high distortion resulting in imprecise depth estimation of objects in a 3D scene. High and non-uniform distortion, especially in the azimuthal direction, is often considered as a weakness of panoramic lenses because it is somet...
